An introduction to Free Speech Debate

Timothy Garton Ash introduces Free Speech Debate.

Timothy Garton Ash is Director of the Dahrendorf Programme for the Study of Freedom and leads the Free Speech Debate project. Watch him introduce the project here.

To find out more about Free Speech Debate, read the introduction to our first principle, “We – all human beings – must be free and able to express ourselves, and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas, regardless of frontiers.” On this site, you can also read about the time Tom Cruise sued South Park, find out what the Buddha meant by ‘right speech’ or watch Salman Rushdie talk about free speech, 25 years on, to name just a few.
