Shami Chakrabarti: Why robust civility works from an ethical but not from a legal perspective

The director of civil liberties group Liberty calls for a review of all speech crime legislation in the UK.

Shami Chakrabarti, the Director of Liberty, says “It would be a mistake to attempt to censor for kindness or politeness or civility”. “Civility is something that we must aspire to and we must lead by example. That civility cannot be imposed.” Chakrabarti ends by calling for a review of all speech crime legislation in the UK.
